Peter Yarrow with Agent Orange child victims.

American country singer Peter Yarrow, of legendary rock group ‘Peter, Paul and Mary’, will return to Vietnam.

From September 16 to 28 Yarrow will perform in HCM City, Hue and Hanoi to raise funds for war victims. Earlier this year the singer performed in Vietnam, participating in activities to support child victims of Agent Orange.

In the 1960s, Yarrow participated in anti- Vietnam War campaigns in the US, and wrote ‘The Great Mandala’, a song about a man who stated that he would rather go to jail than go out to battle. Yarrow was awarded the Allard K. Lowenstein prize in 1982 for his contributions to the struggling cause for freedom, peace, and human rights.

According to some sources, famous Vietnamese singers Dam Vinh Hung, My Tam, Quang Dung and overseas Vietnamese singer Trinh Vinh Trinh have expressed a willingness to join the show for free.

US singer: we owe Agent Orange child victims an apology

US folk singer Peter Yarrow, who is in Vietnam to raise funds for Vietnam's Agent Orange (AO) victims, said he felt he and his friends have the responsibility to make apologies to child AO victims for their sufferings.

Talking with a reporter from the Sai Gon Giai phong (Liberated Sai Gon) before his concert at the Hanoi Opera House on September 18, the first of the three charitable concerts he is to perform in Vietnam, the singer said he was heart-broken looking at the children suffering from the after-effects of Agent Orange to which their parents or grandparents were exposed. Someone must apologise to them for their sufferings, but many US people did not dare to say it, he said.

The other two concerts will be held at Hue city's Culture Center and the Ho Chi Minh City Theatre on September 22 and 25.

This is the second time Yarrow has been to Vietnam to raise funds for AO victims. He first came to the country in March this year.
