Attached is an article that will appear in the new issue of our newsletter Interchange.   I have been hesitant to extend its focus from Indochina and Cuba to the Iraq crisis, but the situation seemed inescapable and the connection did not feel forced.  Your comments are welcome.

When I heard over Thanksgiving that Henry Kissinger had been named to head the independent commission to investigate 9/11, I couldn't decide whether this was to assure a cover-up or simply to undermine the effectiveness of a process that Congress forced on the White House. 

The Democrats choice of George Mitchell may turn out to be a successful trumping the President with someone who has both the courage and the smarts to outmaneuver Kissinger, or another example of the collapse of a democratic opposition.  Worth watching is the makeup of the rest of the commission.
