Attached is an article that will appear in the new issue of our newsletter Interchange.
I have been hesitant to extend its focus from Indochina and Cuba to the Iraq
crisis, but the situation seemed inescapable and the connection did not feel
forced. Your comments are welcome.

When I heard over Thanksgiving that Henry Kissinger had been named to head the
independent commission to investigate 9/11, I couldn't decide whether this was
to assure a cover-up or simply to undermine the effectiveness of a process that
Congress forced on the White House.
The Democrats choice of George Mitchell may turn out to be a successful
trumping the President with someone who has both the courage and the smarts to
outmaneuver Kissinger, or another example of the collapse of a democratic
opposition. Worth watching is the makeup of the rest of the
commission.
